SMS was created as part of the GSM Phase 1 standard. It is believed that the first short message has been sent in December1992 from a personal computer (PC) to a mobile phone on theVodafone GSM network in the UK. Each short message of up to 160 characters long when using the Latin alphabet, 70 charactersin length when using non-Latin alphabets such as Arabic and Chinese.

There is no doubt in the success of SMS, on the market in Europe alone had reached more than three billion short messages per month, although a little proactive marketing by network operators and handset manufacturers. And drivers in the main market duringthe next two years, such as Wireless Application Protocol (WAP)to continue this path of growth.
For a relatively simple messaging service, and there are certainly a lot of elements
that must be taken into account in the development and deployment of SMS! However, operators whotake the time and trouble to invest in creating SMS clients andestimated revenue estimates.
